You will receive a guided tour of the UW–Madison Geology Museum, followed by exploration and hands on activities in the fossil preparation lab. You'll not only get a behind the scenes glimpse of the work that goes into extracting vertebrate fossils out of the rock that has preserved them for more than 100 million years, but you will be put in the drivers seat and have an opportunity to use the tools on real fossil specimens. We will have several stations so you can experience the variety of methods and practices that allow specimens to be curated, studied, and displayed. From digital preparation of CT scans, to physically exposing bone that has never been seen by human eye, you will be an active learner in the fossil preparation lab!
